The recruitment of assistant professors for Government first grade colleges of Karnataka will be done by Karnataka examination authority through Competitive exam. (There will be no interview as per the draft recruitment rules 2020)
Aspirants with required qualification can download the syllabus and previous year question papers from bellow links and they can start their preparations.
Assistant Professor Recruitment will be conduct by Karnataka state government, Department of Collegiate education on the basis rules and regulations made by the University Grant Commission (UGC) from time to time.

Qualification/ Eligibility
- A Master Degree with minimum 55% of marks from recognized university
- 5% of relaxation for Schedule Caste (SC), Schedule tribe (ST), OBC (Non creamy layer), Person with Disability (PWD), PHD holder those who were completed their Master’s Degree before the date 19 Sept. 1991.
- Candidates should be successfully qualified in the “National Eligible Test” conducted by UGC or CSIR or other similar test accredited by UGC like “State eligibility test” or KSET
- PHD degree holders who has completed there PHD in accordance with the UGC rules released from time to time are exempted from the passing NET or SET
- The Ph.D Degree of the candidates has been awarded in regular mode only. Distance mode Ph.D degree shall not be consider as valid.
- Education qualification prescribed by the University Grant Commission in regulations/ guidelines issued from time to time shall be applicable.
As per the latest circular from the MHRD & UGC, PhD is Compulsory to become assistant professors in the universities wef July 2021. However, the NET / SLET / PhD Continue to be the minimum eligibility for Assistant professors in Colleges across the Country.

Age limit
- Lower age limit is 22 years
- Upper age limit will be as follows
SC, ST, Cat-1 | 45 years |
IIA, IIB, IIIA, IIIB | 43 years |
General | 40 years |
Mode of Appointment
- Competitive examination shall be conducted by KPSC / KEA for selection on the basis of Merit
- There shall be no interview
Karnataka Examination authority shall conduct the competitive exam for selection of candidates for the post of assistant professors in the govt first grade colleges of Karnataka. ( There will be no Interview)
Pattern of Examination
Compulsory papers: There will be two compulsory papers
Paper-I | Kannada | 100 marks |
Paper-II | English | 100 marks |
- Compulsory paper ( Kannada & English) shall be qualifying nature. For qualifying these papers minimum of 30% in each paper and 35% aggregate is required.
- Candidates who does not qualifies in Compulsory papers are not eligible for recruitment.
- Marks obtained in compulsory papers will not be considered for ranking.
Optional papers- There will be two optional papers.
Paper-III | General Knowledge | 50 marks |
Paper-IV | Optional paper | 250 marks |
- The Optional Paper Shall be set both in Kannada and English
- Optional Paper shall have Negative marking with deduction of 1/4th marks for each wrong answer
